The travel from London to Todmorden is one I am very familiar with, having embarked on this journey many many times in the past 3 and a half years. Each journey never fails to annoy, upset or anger me in one or another; whether it is delayed trains due to snow, signal failures, stolen cables or a suicide. The recent journey home actually ran surprisingly smoothly; I arrived home on time and my connecting time pulled into Leeds early!! However, the rants commenced about my fellow travellers, who were quite simply rude!
I started my journey at the delightful Watford Junction with a suitcase, a hold-all, a hand bag and laptop case. Thankfully, the train doors opened in front of me, but did I get on the train first? Did I heck!! Men and women pushed past me and no-one offered to help me! How rude! What ever happened to Mr Darcy?
Again, walking from Euston to Kings Cross, countless people bumped into me and refused to move out of my way (I couldn't manoeuvre myself much with so much luggage). The journey continued in a similar way. I was only helped with my luggage at Todmorden Station by some kind and caring gentleman, my Dad!
The morals to this story are a) do not travel with so much luggage b) do not expect the people of London to move out of your way, they are always far more busy and important that you are and c) if you have seen someone struggling with baggage, give them a hand, it is Christmas after all.
This is not targeted towards Londoners, it is targeted towards all people that are guilty of any of the above behaviour.
I am home safe and sound but with a bad back and sore shoulder and would really appreciate a back massage, thank you.
