A Very British Canvas

As a patriot, I love all things British! I decided to get crafty and make a canvas with a British theme.

I used blue as my main colour with red, gold and white making a fabulous contrast. I used a stencil to make the union jack in the middle of the canvas. I used an array of stencils and stamps to make the background interesting. I used a selection of quintessentially British stamps; Mary Poppins, post box, the red bus, the black taxi, the Queen's head on a stamp, a telephone box and Big Ben to name but a few. I layered my canvas using plywood and added a rose embellishment to the centre of my union jack. I titivated my canvas with a rustic bulldog clip, a crown embellishments, floral embellishments, Tim Holtz word embellishments, a tree embellishment and hand made red, white and blue flowers with beads or brads to decorate the centre. We found some old old coins (shillings, a six pence, a three pence, a half penny...) and glued them on the canvas, to add a piece of history to my work. We did find some coins that were dated pre-1940 but I refused to use these on my canvas as I thought they were far too historic.

The canvas now takes pride place on my landing and will be accompanied by other work soon.
