Well, on a plus note I have LOTS to blog about.
Last week I found out my university results. My hard work paid off and I was awarded a First Class Honours Degree in Law. I celebrated with champagne and strawberries on the Friday night with my mum and dad. On Saturday, Sean took me to Room, on King Street in Manchester. A fabulous restaurant ranked the 5th best place to eat in the city.
The interior was superbly decorated to have a modern yet cosy feel. We landed a table completely by luck. Leaving reservations to the last minute, we were informed that Room was fully booked. The ever optimistic Sean took me there for a drink with hopes of securing a table...he was right (don't tell him I told you) and we jumped at the opportunity to take an unfulfilled table of some silly diners that never showed. They're loss and our gain.
My delicious 'Room Gin and Tonic' complete with grapes and sage.
The menu boasted classic dishes with a contemporary twist. The menu was exquisite, meaning choosing what to eat was very difficult. After much humming and haaring, we settled on the following:
Crispy duck pancakes -Smoked Goosnargh duck, rhubarb, pickled ginger
Scotch egg -Rare breed pork, homemade black pudding, crispy hen's egg
For our main course, we chose Welsh Rarebit -Wild Scottish salmon, Cornish crab, Morecambe Bay shrimp
And Surf and Turf - Grange Farm pork, scallops, tandoori spice
For desert, we settled on Burnt English Cream - “Gooseberry fool”, hazelnut & ginger ice cream
And Chocolate Fudge Cake -Valhrona chocolate, honeycomb, amaretto
I know, right?! Truly and utterly delicious. We trailed off back home and continued drinking on the sofa in front of the TV...a perfect celebration night.
If you fancy a trip to Room, check out their site here. I recommend it to all my fellow foodies.
That fudge cake made me drool! Glad to see you are on blogging again! Looks like a lovely place!
