Last night I received a long-awaited email informing me that I have secured a place in the Great North Run!! The half-marathon (13.1 miles, gulp) will take place Sunday 16th September in Gateshead. My boyfriend secured a place about a month ago and although I was delighted he had got in, I was very upset I had been rejected from the first draw...but I have secured my place in the general ballot. YAY!
The Great North Run is the biggest half-marathon in the world and has more participants than the London Marathon!
Although I'm some-what acquainted with long distances now, having ran the Berlin Marathon in September, I still need to get my trainers on, devise an excellent training schedule and a fool-proof eating plan.
I am determined to do well in this race, I would quite like to finish in 2 hours 30 minutes, which is a feasible goal. If I train hard enough, I think I could maybe knock about 10 minutes or so off this target. Sean will probably finish in about 1 hour and 15-30 minutes as he is ridiculously fast.
I'm unsure whether to re-open our sponsorship page as we struggled to get sponsorship for the marathon...people just don't want to give to charity and don't seem to care about saving hearts any more :( (we were raising money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my Grandad). But I will have a think and will let you all know.
But for now, I'm going to be going to the gym and going for some runs...
Thanks for stopping by my blog, i'm following you now :)
