I love a good brew. As a northerner, enjoying the milky, sugary caffeine drink comes with the territory. In my eyes, you can't beat a good brew, it comes to the rescue on many occasions: having a catch up with your friends or your mum, as a comfort drink when things aren't going quite your way, after being outside in the cold, whilst curled up with a good book or watching a good film, whilst writing your dissertation or reading your textbooks...the list is endless. And there is nothing better than a brew with a biscuit or chocolate!
However, it has come to my attention in recent months that this beloved drink is probably not the best thing to be guzzling down on a frequent basis. I used to average at about 6-8 cups a day, sometimes exceeding this and going into double figures. I have instead turned to the green stuff...Green Tea. Full of great anti-oxidants, green tea also speeds up your metabolism and is recommended by health experts.
So, although I can't live without my cuppa in the morning, I have prohibited the drink in the afternoon. I am proud to say I am living up to one of my new years resolution.
I do have a guilty confession. The past week I have been consuming more than 1 cup of tea and am happily drinking about 3 cups. In my defence, the dissertation needs it!! Anddd having watched a documentary on BBC iPlayer and finding out that the brown little tea bag contains many anti-oxidants which can help fight off cancer and lowers the chance of heart disease, I no longer feel guilty reaching for the Tetleys. I will try and stick to the Green Tea though.
Rachel I do not know how you do it.Its tea tea and more tea for me. Every situation calls for a nice cup of tea. Yes, green and fruit teas may be better for you but I love the stuff. You can keep your coffee, alcohol etc just give me tea.
